"java version"
On the SilverPlatter list yesterday was a message about SP not dropping
support for version 3.1 (the "web version") anytime soon, and that they'd
give at least 12 months notice if they did.
The message then went on to say:
I'd also like to take this opportunity to clarify a
common area of confusion regarding the architecture
of the more current version of WebSPIRS, v4.1. WebSPIRS
relies primarily on JavaScript, which is in no way related
to the Java programming language. Users who wish to access
WebSPIRS 4 from their home workstations must have JavaScript
support enabled, but do not need to have workstation support
for Java. The only exception to this is in conjunction with
a small set of SilverPlatter full text databases that
support access via the database Table of Contents (e.g. the
EIU family of databases; DIF; OSH ). For additional details
about WebSPIRS 4 workstation requirements, please refer to the Technical
Support
area of SilverPlatter's website:

=========================================
I thought this might be useful information for those of you who don't want
to have to maintain two links to SilverPlatter on your web pages. It
remains your choice which of the two interfaces (version 3 - "web" or
version 4 "java") or both, that you link to for now.
