>* WebSPIRS 5.01 can now be run against ERL servers using Athens

>
>* Session independent data from the ERL server (e.g. metadata and field

>
>* A toggle full screen button is now displayed in the top bar of the lower
> frame. This allows the contents of the bottom frame to expand to cover
> most of the top frame.
>
>* The advanced search tab now allows searches to be made against up to
> three fields simultaneously.
>
>* The link to the SilverPlatter license agreement can now be removed from
> the Search Hints page after login for particular customers. Set the
> <show-license> parameter in the <general-options> section of the
> relevant webspirs.cfg to false.
>
>* The alerts administrator can now be designated to be a personal user

> the relevant webspirs.cfg to true and specify a username beginning with

>
>* Expiring SDIs and search histories can be managed by scheduling the

>
>Important performance note
>--------------------------
>The first time that you use WebSPIRS you will experience slow
>performance as the WebSPIRS pages are compiled. Performance improves
>greatly on second and subsequent runs.
>
>
>Browser caching for Internet Explorer 5.0 and Netscape Navigator 4.x
>--------------------------------------------------------------------
>Some browser cache settings can interfere with the proper operation of
>WebSPIRS. If you set the cache so that new versions of the pages are
>never checked against cached versions, WebSPIRS 5 will not operate
>correctly. This cache setting should not be used with WebSPIRS.
>
>Rarely, when using Internet Explorer 5.0 (not 5.5) with the browser set to
>check for new versions of stored pages "Automatically", WebSPIRS may not
>operate correctly. We recommended that you set your browser cache as
>described below.
>
>* Internet Explorer 5.0: Select Tools/Options from the menu and click on
> the "Settings" button in the "Temporary Internet Files" section. In the
> radio button group "Check for new versions of stored pages", select
> "Every visit to the page".
>* Netscape Navigator 4.x: Select Edit/Preferences from the menu and open
> "Advanced". Click on "Cache". In the radio button group "Document in cache
> is compared to document on network", select "Every Time".

>Memory size
>-----------
>The installer prompts you for the size of the physical memory of your
>machine in Megabytes. If you do not know how much memory is in your machine
>use the following command:
>
>* prtconf (usually /etc/prfconf). Total memory is the second line
> printed
>
>
>The physical memory size affects the number of simultaneous users that
>WebSPIRS will support. Four megabytes of physical memory are required for
>each user. We recommend that you do not install WebSPIRS on a machine with
>less than 128 Mb of memory. If you install WebSPIRS on a machine with 64Mb
>of memory it will automatically be configured to support only 1 user.
>
>We do not recommended that you run dbserver on the same machine as WebSPIRS.
>However, if you want to do this, you should enter a smaller amount of memory
>than the full amount of system memory, for example, half the system memory.
>Entering an incorrect value for the physical memory size will cause
>unpredictable performance problems.
>
>Important: 2048 Mb is the maximum that works reliably.
>
>
>Memory usage
>------------
>WebSPIRS allocates a block of virtual memory for itself when it starts.
>By default it allocates a block of virtual memory of about 20Mb. WebSPIRS
>also has a parameter that specifies the maximum amount of virtual memory
>that it will use. By default this is set to the size of physical memory
>entered during the installation procedure. If you run dbserver or other
>software on the same machine you may want to reduce this.
>
>To do this edit the file <installdir>/tomcat/bin/startup.sh.
>Edit the TOMCAT_OPTIONS variable and change the value of the following
>parameters:
>
>-Xms<size> - minimum amount of virtual memory used by WebSPIRS
>-Xmx<size> - maximum amount of virtual memory used by WebSPIRS
>
>where <size> is a number followed by the letter 'm' (for megabytes) or
>'g' (for gigabytes). For example, to set the minimum amount of memory
>used by WebSPIRS to 512 megabytes and the maximum to 768 megabytes,
>use -Xms512m -Xmx768m.
>Do not alter any of the other parameters in the TOMCAT_OPTIONS setting.
>
>
>Delay using the goto or page back/forward buttons to display available
>----------------------------------------------------------------------
>records
>-------
>When the records display is set to show only records available in
>the library, and a hotlink is followed, a delay may occur on the
>first use of the goto or page back/forward buttons on the main
>records display. Subsequent use of the buttons is as expected.
>
>
>Deduplication not indicated when duplicates are on more than one ERL server
>---------------------------------------------------------------------------
>When databases are opened on several ERL servers and the display is set to
>show deduplicated records, the deduplication takes place only within each
>server.
>A record which appears in a database on server A will not be indicated as a
>duplicate of the same record appearing in a database on server B.
>
>
>Converting WebSPIRS 4.3 SDIs and search histories belonging to the default
>--------------------------------------------------------------------------
>organization
>------------
>When using the Upgrade43.sh utility to convert the default organization
>(ie. not a customer group) additional runs of the script may be required
>to convert the default organizations SDIs and search histories. If the
>entire 4.3 installation is being converted by supplying "*" as the
>oldCustomDir parameter then this is not necessary.
>If not, to convert the search history for the default organization use
>'history' as the oldCustomDir parameter. To convert the SDIs belonging
>to user test in the default organization the oldCustomDir parameter
>should be 'test'.
