sportdiscus authors
Friends of SilverPlatter at Yale. Some of you may be able to stretch your
memories back to a problem that Jeffry reported in doing author searches in
the Web version of SportDiscus. ONLY in the web version, and ONLY in
SportDiscus, an author search (using the checkbox for author), resulted in
a CA search (corporate author) instead of the usual AU,CA search (personal
author or corporate author).
I have been occasionally nudging SilverPlatter since the original report to
determine what is going on and to get it fixed. Finally today, I was
informed that yes, it is a bug, and they now know where the problem lies.
Unfortunately, we don't know when it will actually be fixed.
Here's the situation. The bug results from including the ATLANTES
sub-database in a cross-group search. (There are actually 4 sub-parts of
SportDiscus). If we remove ATLANTES from our pre-set entry to all 4 parts,
then we have no problems.
This is not a problem in the java version.
So for SportDiscus afficionados, I propose that a) we remove ATLANTES code
from the Web version. That would mean the link would look like:
http://webspirs3.silverplatter.com/cgi-bin/customers/yale/yale.cgi?sp.dbid.p
=S(HA,OZ,SP)&sp.nextform=search.htm
if we do a) then should we temporarily create a separate web version link
to ATLANTES only:
http://webspirs3.silverplatter.com/cgi-bin/customers/yale/yale.cgi?sp.dbid.p
=S(0T)&sp.nextform=search.htm
OR b) we just delete the link to the Web version entirely and only offer
the java version.
Let me know if you care. Certainly the easiest thing is to only have a
java link.
